Mandala Muck Dye

One of my favorite patterns to tie and dye, the Mandala, is a great motif to wear. It can be a symbol of meditation and introspection or just be enjoyed as a piece of wearable art. This was one of the first designs I learned before I was aware of its spiritual connotations and working with it has brought me much joy and learning. Circles and repeating patterns appear in nature, architecture and are also powerful symbols in cultures throughout world history. I am pleased to create these pieces and share their love with the world. 
This shirt was dyed using an ice dye technique known as "muck dye". Close up shots show the intricacies in the dye splits and runs exclusive to this process. It's the melting of the ice cubes on pigment into a light submersion which gives this unique watercolour effect with such deep undertones. I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I enjoyed making it. 

All Tie Dyes are made using 100% cotton and Procion MX dyes. everything is set for 24 hours (some are assisted with heat as i live in a cooler climate than some dyers) before being hand washed and heat soaked to assure little to no future colour bleed. For best colour last, as with most companies, we suggest washing on cold with like colours, hang to dry when possible. And if you are busy like me than you may like to hear that personally i have washed hot, mix my laundry and to date, have had no issues.
